GUIDELINES FOR ENTERING QUILTS IN THE “AIRING OF THE QUILTS” SHOW
GUIDELINES FOR ENTERING QUILTS
Anyone may enter a quilt, quilter or non-quilter, guild member or non-guild member. One entry form and the non-refundable $5.00 entry fee are required for each entry. A personal check, money order or cash is accepted, with a maximum of $25 entry fee for Guild members regardless of number of quilts entered. A photograph is required and will not be returned. One check for the total amount of entry fees may be used for multiple entries.
The Entry Form and fee should be sent before March 15th. If the exhibitor desires a confirmation of the Entry Form, a self-addressed stamped envelope must be included with the Entry Form.
The Tall Pines Quilt Guild recommends that each entry be insured on the exhibitor’s home owner’s insurance policy. Neither the City of Huntsville nor the Tall Pines Quilt Guild or its members are responsible for loss due to theft, fire, vandalism or acts of God to any entry, display item, or associated material left with the Airing of the Quilts Committee.
Shapes other than squares or rectangles are discouraged and may not be displayed due to difficulty in hanging.
Each entry MUST have a fabric label attached to the bottom right hand corner of the back of the quilt. See information about quilt labels at the bottom of this page.
Each entry MUST have a 4” wide fabric sleeve attached to the top of the back of the quilt. (Some quilts may be hung using cables or ropes; however, we must have the flexibility to be able to hang quilts using a sleeve.) See Instructions for making sleeves at the bottom of this page.
The Tall Pines Quilt Guild recommends that entries delivered by postal service be insured.
Each entry should be delivered to the Fabric Carousel between 9:00 am & 4:00 pm on thelast Saturday inApril. If you are mailing, place the quilt in a disposable bag then in a sturdy box along with a self-addressed envelope to receive a confirmation form of the entry. Please get the correct postage if receiving more than one confirmation back. You will be required to show confirmation for every entry in order to pick up after the show. Send to 1103 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas 77340
If the entry is to be returned by mail, attach a pre-paid self-addressed return mailing label to the entry form. Obtain this label from the delivery service.
Entries will be hung by 9:00 am on the day of the Airing. All entries will be on display until 4:00 pm. Entriesmust bepicked up at 6:00 pm on day of the Airing. Only Tall Pines Quilt Guild Committees will hang and take down all entries. Under no circumstances will an entry be taken down by any other person. If entry is to be returned by mail or delivery services, the Guild will return it within 2 weeks.
No Antique quilts will be displayed this year.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING LABELS: Cut a piece of muslin or light solid fabric 4” by 4” or larger. Embroider, type or use a permanent marker to write information about the quilt. THE OWNER’S NAME is required on the label. Attach the label to the quilt with a running stitch, an appliqué stitch, or a back stitch. Sew through the backing and batting.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING A QUILT SLEEVE: Cut fabric 9” wide and the width of the quilt. Put a ½” hem in each end. Fold the fabric lengthwise wrong sides together. Sew the long raw edges together with a ¼” seam. Press with seam at the center back. Attach the sleeve to the top back of the quilt next to the binding. Sew bottom edge in the same fashion. Sew through the backing and the batting only. This will form a tube for a rod to be slipped through the sleeve.
