Lecture  – Small Quilts: Miniature Heirlooms
                   
This program can be presented as a slide lecture or as a lecture/trunk show. Viewers will be inspired to create their own small quilts when Shelly shares her enthusiasm for these little treasures. She will bring a large selection of her award winning miniatures along with some wonderful vintage doll quilts and a few other special small quilts she has collected.

                    

Workshop - April 3Pineapple Quilts (Not paper pieced) (34” x 34”) Instructions for 3”to 12” blocks will be given.

                Students learn a quick and accurate “stitch and trim” method for making beautiful Pineapple blocks with no paper piecing foundations. They will start a four block wallhanging/table runner or they could use their 12 inch blocks as the start of a larger project. The class will include instructions for blocks ranging from 3 inches to 14 inches square.  Ideas for creating unique quilts using a variety of sets and fabric options will be discussed.

            Flavin Glover - from Auburn, Alabama

                           Flavin Glover, a quilt designer and teacher, has a degree in Clothing, Textiles and Related Arts from Auburn University.  Innovative Log Cabin and geometric patchwork quilts composed of many fabrics in vibrant colors have become her trademark.  She has created numerous quilts inspired from landscapes and architecture.

Lecture - June 4 -A New Look at Log Cabin Quilts

                     See what happens when Log Cabin blocks are stretched, dissected, elongated and turned to create Log Cabin quilts beyond the ordinary. Some colorful designs are updated adaptations of old blocks given new life. Other featured quilts are filled with newly designed blocks. This display of color and fabric play will inspire you to look again at Log Cabin patchwork.  Includes a trunk show.
              

Workshop – June 5 – Log Cabin Diamonds – Zinnias (32” x 46”)

                                                        

                                                                                           

                               Class members can pick which quilt they would like to make in class from the ones above.

            Student's Supply List:  Notepad and pen, scissors, rotary cutter, mat, ruler, sewing machine, extension cord and basic sewing kit. Instructor will provide colored pencils, worksheets and grids.

         Fabric: Select a total of 12 to 18 fabrics fat quarters from three or four color families representing a few lights, but mostly medium and dark values. All fabrics need not match or coordinate. Choose fabrics with a variety of printed designs; vary the scale of prints, stripes, or dots. Vary tones and shades within the solids & prints; or use batiks if you wish.

          A hands-on talk with examples of what judges look for in quilts. Detailing the specifics and using many examples from her personal collection of quilts, Connie shares the positives and negatives of these works and explains common judging criteria. Questions are welcomed. This is an ideal opportunity to learn how to make your quilts show ready.

Lecture - August 27 –  Scrap Quilts ... Too Much Is Never Enough

    In this lecture I usually bring two dozen scrap quilts and end the lecture with a trunk showing of the quilts in my book Colorful Quilts - A Journey Through Fabric. We discuss the use of multiple fabric combinations, stash builders, how to make scrap quilts with 75 or more fabrics and the products available to help quick-piece any quilt project.

Lecture - October  1 – Tell Me About your Doll Quilt

                        This lecture discusses the history of Doll Quilts from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. Why are these little jems so fascinating? The lecture will provide you with some of the answers to that quesion. Included is a trunk show with approx. 75 pieces. Many are antiques including some doll beds & stowaways. Also, a selection of quilts from the Quilts Remembered pattern company will be on hand.

Workshop  - October 2 - Piecing in a small way  - Pattern Laura’s 1870 Cradle Quilt (25 ½” x 28 ½”)

  
  'Piecing' fun for the day!  Learn some of Annemarie's tricks and techniques for piecing small quilts.  Three to six specific techniques will be taught depending on the pattern choice. Patterns offered for class will focus on rotary cutting and precision machine piecing.  Of course, some of Annemarie's favorite tips and tricks will be covered.  Your guild will choose one of the Quilts Remembered patterns for a class.  Pattern included with class.   (Pre-cutting required)
