Box Lunch Lectures with Dr. CAROLINE CRIMM
Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, 2006

The Huntsville Tall Pines Quilt Guild invites you to attend a full-day class with one of these two nationally-known guest teachers.   These Friday full day classes will be held concurrently from 10:00 until 5:00 p.m.  The registration fee for each class is $60.  Materials for each class will be sold separately by the teachers on the day of the class.   The Box Lunch Lecture will be given on both Friday and Saturday.  The cost of the lecture and lunch is $15.  Lunch will include a tasty sandwich, chips, drink, and cookie.

Participants are invited to stay on Saturday to attend the Airing of the Quilts from 10:00 until 4:00 P.M..  There you can view over 400 quilts displayed around the courthouse square in our historic downtown area, visit vendors and shops and enjoy our featured “Supper Quilt” by Dr. Don Locke.

OUR TEACHERS
Cynthia England will teach a pictorial quilt class using her “Picture-piecing” technique. Fabric selection, organizational skills and construction methods will be addressed in this class.  She will offer two projects, “Welcome” and “Country Road” which may be viewed on her website, www.englanddesign.com.  A fabric kit and pattern, which includes pre-printed templates, are required for the class at a cost of $25.   These materials will be available at the beginning of class.  Sewing machines, basic sewing supplies, rotary cutter, mat and irons are required.

Darlene Christopherson , an accomplished quiltmaker and teacher since 1979 will teach  “A Day of Applique” on Friday.   She will conduct morning lectures on Fabric Selection and Preparing for Hand Needle Turn Appliqué.  In the afternoon she will demonstrate appliqué for the class project which is a 6” block pincushion.  The project kit will be available for $5 on the day of the class.    You will need small sharp fabric and paper scissors, fine silk pins, neutral thread and paper and pen.  Darlene will provide needles.

Dr. Caroline Crimm, noted historian and author, favorite Sam Houston State University professor, and honored as one of the 10 best professors in Texas in 2005, will share “Secrets in the Quilts,” her lecture about hidden messages and meanings in and behind quilts throughout history.  She combines her love of quilting and her memories of family quilts with her professional expertise as an historian and professor to captivate audiences with her stories, images, and information.   Lecture fee includes a delicious box lunch with dessert and drink.
