GUIDELINES FOR THE “AIRING OF THE QUILTS” SHOW

  •   Anyone may show entry –quilters or quilt owners—Guild Members or Non-Guild Members.
  •   One entry form and the non-refundable .00 entry fee are required for each entry. A personal check, money order, credit card or cash is accepted. A photograph is optional, but strongly recommended.  One check for the total amount of entries fees may be used for multiple entries.
  •   The Entry Form and fee should be sent before March 15, 2010. If the exhibitor desires a confirmation of the Entry Form a self-addressed stamped envelope must be included with the Entry Form.
  •   The Tall Pines Quilt Guild recommends that each entry be insured on the exhibitor’s home owner’s insurance policy. Neither the City of Huntsville nor the Tall Pines Quilt Guild or its members are responsible for loss due to theft, fire, vandalism or acts of God to any entry, display item, or associated material left with the Airing of the Quilts Committee.
  •   Shapes other than squares or rectangles are discouraged and may not be displayed due to difficulty in hanging.
  •   Each entry MUST have a fabric label attached to the bottom right hand corner of the back of the quilt. See information about quilt labels at the bottom of this page.
  •   Each entry MUST have a 4” wide fabric sleeve attached to the top of the back of the quilt. (Some quilts may be hung using cables or ropes; however, we must have the flexibility to be able to hang quilts using a sleeve.)  See Instructions for making sleeves at the bottom of this page.
  •   If exhibitor desires, the quilt may be sold to the public. The Tall Pines Quilt Guild will receive 15% of the sale price. All sale transactions are final and will be handled by the Tall Pines Quilt Guild. Personal checks or credit card will be accepted. The Guild will mail a check for the sale of the entry within 2 weeks after the show.
  •   The Tall Pines Quilt Guild recommends that entries delivered by postal service be insured.
  •   The entry should be delivered between 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 24 and Thursday, April 29, or 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 24 to 1213 Sam Houston Avenue, Huntsville, TX.
  •   Entries delivered by mail should be sent to Fabric Carousel, 1101 12th St, Huntsville, TX  77340. Place the quilt in a disposable bag and mail in a sturdy box. Send a self-addressed envelope in the box to receive a confirmation of the entry and form. This confirmation form will be required to pick up entry after the show.
  •   If entry is to be returned by mail attach a pre-paid self addressed return mailing label to the entry form. Obtain this label from the delivery service.
  •   Entries will be hung by 9:00 A.M. May 1, 2010. All entries will be on display until 4:00 pm. NO ENTRY may be picked up before 6:00 P.M. on May 1, 2010.  Only Tall Pines Quilt Guild Committees will hang and take down all entries. Under no circumstances will an entry be taken down by any other person.
  •   If entry is to be returned by mail or delivery services, the Guild will return it by May 10, 2010.
  •   In case of rain sale quilts will be displayed indoors.
  •   All antique quilts will be displayed indoors.  Antique quilts do not need sleeves.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING LABELS: Cut a piece of muslin or light solid fabric 4” by 4” or larger. Embroider, type or use a permanent marker to write information about the quilt. THE OWNER’S NAME is required on the label.  Attach the label to the quilt with a running stitch, an appliqué stitch, or a back stitch. Sew through the backing and batting.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING A QUILT SLEEVE:  Cut fabric 9” wide and the width of the quilt. Put a ½” hem in each end. Fold the fabric lengthwise wrong sides together.  Sew the long raw edges together with a ¼” seam. Press with seam at the center back. Attach the sleeve to the top back of the quilt next to the binding. Sew bottom edge in the same fashion.  Sew through the backing and the batting only. This will form a tube for a rod to be slipped through the sleeve. (Antique quilts do not need sleeves.)
